Best TV ad ever??
This advert is pretty old now, there’s a new model of this car now, but I still think this ad is brilliant.
Pretty cool huh?? Honda do some pretty good ads.

It’s about time I had a rant about Sainsbury’s. We have one in our town, it’s the only supermarket there is, and it is, by far, the worst run store I have ever had the misfortune of having to visit.
Quite often I feel like having a sandwich for lunch, perfectly normal thing to want to do. I really like Chicken and Bacon sandwiches, the Sainsbury’s ones are really nice. They do two types, one without salad, and one with, for a little bit more. I preferred the one without salad (not exactly a fan of lettuce…) but the garage was the only one to ever have those (at our Sainsbury’s, there’s the main store, and a garage, with all your essentials, bread, milk etc etc, to save you having to go to the main store for small things). But then, when they re-designed the packaging, they seemed to stop the plain ones. Fine, I wasn’t really very pleased with it but there was the alternative of the one with salad. That isn’t my biggest gripe. My biggest gripe is the fact that they hardly ever put sandwiches out in the main store when they’re actually wanted. Today, for example, at 12:30, and 14:00, the sandwich shelves were pretty much empty. A lot of the time they’re just putting them out at 14:00. How many people are going to want to have lunch at that time?? Most people’s lunches are between 12:00 and 14:00, I’m curious as to why they put out lunch time food when everyone has already gone elsewhere to get food. And they wonder why their sales are dropping?? Might help if the food is there when people are actually trying to buy it. But, I guess it’s up to them if they want to drive customers away.
OK, you may think that last comment was a bit OTT for not putting sandwiches out but it isn’t just that, they never have anything out. The fruit and veg section is always half empty. The fresh bread section is always pretty much empty. They seem to wait until a shelf is completely empty before restocking it, not making sure it’s always full, which is how it should be done. I worked in a supermarket for a short time and the shelves were pretty much always full, unless we were truly out of stock. At this store, sometimes the new stock is on a crate at the end of the isle but nobody has been bothered to put it on the shelves.
I also swear they purposely sell out of the things I want. If they actually have bothered to put out sandwiches, they have everything apart from the one I want. When I want to go and get a bag of cookies, they have every type apart from the one I want.
You may think this is petty, and you’re probably right, but if all you want to do is get something to eat and this is the sort of organisation they have, it begins to really piss you off. Having the odd day of bad organisation is fine, but only having the odd day of good organisation isn’t right.
They also can’t manage their tills for shit. They have a good 30 tills but the way they run them is appalling. Often, there’s about 7 tills open, and they all have about 3 people queuing at each. They have signs up saying that if they see this sort of thing happening, they’ll ‘happily open another till for you’. Bullshit. So often I’ve stood there are the ’till managers’ are just talking amongst themselves, or they see the queues, but just ignore them. They could quite easily call more people to the tills or, heaven forbid, man the till themselves, but they don’t, they just make people wait around. At the shop I worked in, if the tills were getting too busy, they’d open another one, simple as.
Back before I realised that the store was run my a monkey, and when I was looking for a job, I applied for vacancies there. The first time I applied, I got turned down because they said I had no work experience. I explained to them that this was because I changed schools when we moved, so I ended up missing the school arranged work experience at both, but they said they wouldn’t employ me because I lacked experience. Classic Catch-22; I needed experience to get a job, but I needed a job to get experience. So they were very helpful in getting me off the ground there. The next time I applied for a job there, they said that there wasn’t a vacancy for it. Thing is, I’d seen it advertised, and, even worse, shortly after I was told that the job vacancy didn’t exist, I heard that someone I knew had got an interview for the very job I’d applied for, which apparently didn’t exist. They then ended up getting the job. That confused me a bit. The next time I applied for a job, I never even got a response from them. After this I just thought fuck ‘em, so I applied to another supermarket, got an interview, and was hired there and then. It was only a temp job but still, I got this ‘experience’ that was expected of me. Plus, I got paid more per hour there, as a temp, than someone who had been working for over a year at Sainsbury’s, which I thought was quite funny. I’m glad I didn’t get a job though because it’s run by a bunch of morons.
I could complain to management about the shit organisation but I know fuck all would be done about it so there isn’t much point.
So, yeah, there concludes my moan about our local supermarket.
Don’t shop at Sainsbury’s.
Well, I do, and I couldn’t think of a better title.
One day I got given a model car to play with, one of those ones that you pulled back, let go, and it’d shoot off. It was a yellow Lamborghini Diablo (I think), working scissor doors and everything, and my clearest memory of it was that the ‘cockpit’ was quite far forward, and I thought that this would mean it would oversteer going around a corner. Not the usual thing an 8 year old thinks when he’s playing with a toy car but ever since then I was interested in cars. How they go, how they look, how they smell, how they work, all that. I like old cars and new cars, fast cars and slow cars. That Lambo was my first real memory of liking cars.
My favourite cars are either British, German, or Italian. The Italians make the exotic supercars that you dream about, the sort of thing you’d go for after a lottery win. The British generally make sports cars, most of them are very simple, but very fast (Lotus, Noble, Caterham), that sort of thing. They also make Aston Martins which are arguably the most desirable cars available. The Germans make more practical cars, executive saloons, and some nice sports cars. We’ve always had BMWs (and before you think we’re rich bastards, they’ve not been brand new ones, apart from one bought in 1987). They’re very good cars and I’ll probably stick with them during my driving life. I love BMWs, especially older ones (~1983+), and you can pick up a beautiful classic BMW for less than a brand new small hatch-back. I know which one I’d rather have.
I’d been looking forward to driving for years… I can remember that every so often, usually on my birthday, my dad would say ‘in 7 years you’ll be able to drive’, ‘only 5 years until you can drive’, and I was really looking forward to it. Then, I turned 17, got some L plates for my birthday, and had lessons. It was worth the wait, I passed my theory and practical test first time, and got a car soon after; it was great to be able to go and drive about after all those years.
Being in Norfolk, there’s a lot of nice driving roads. There’s nice long dual carriageways if you want a quick (or long) blast, fast open country-ish roads, some twisty, some straight, some quieter country roads, coastal drives, forestry drives, everything… you could spend days on end driving around all the different routes. We once went right along the coast, just for fish and chips, and it was a great drive, nice and quiet, fast roads, and nice scenery. Plus, there’s plenty of country cafés and pubs, which means locally prepared meat, and local cider. Lovely, I love a nice steak and chips with a pint of local cider.
Give me an old BMW, a sunny weekend and a list of nice pubs and I’ll be happy.
Yay.
Got my penalty notice through the post the other day for my speeding. 3 points and a £60 fine. I don’t give a shit about the fine, that’s not an issue, it’s the sodding points I don’t want. My driving instructor and I sent a letter to them trying to get me off it, didn’t seem to work. Proof the police have nothing better to do and that the system is ujutst. Now I’m gonna have to tell employers… ugh, what a pisser.
As the saying goes, shit happens, it’s just a pain in the arse when it does.
Oh, and I don’t even think a speeding conviction gives you a criminal record but I just liked the title.
Earlier today, it was announced that MyBB will pull support form the 1.2 series. Support will officially end on 1st June, when the 1.2 support forums will be archived.
http://blog.mybboard.net/2009/05/02/eol-announcement-concerning-mybb-12/
Personally I think this is a good move, and a bit overdue. As of tomorrow (3rd may) 1.4 would have been out for exactly 9 months. This should have been plenty of time for people to update, and benefit from all the new features, including a redesigned ACP, as well as a paid security audit for 1.4.2 to make sure the 1.4 series is as secure as possible. Plus, as hardly anybody has really used 1.2 for a while, there are a lot of support issues for 1.2 that we wouldn’t be able to answer simply because we wouldn’t be able to remember how it worked, where something was, or how to fix what was a common issue for 1.2 that wasn’t an issue in 1.4, etc etc. I mean I have a 1.2 forum setup on my localhost but I can’t really remember how to use it very well. So, now people have a month in order to upgrade before they won’t be able to be supported anymore.
Although I think this is a very good move, I can foresee some people still running 1.2 will raise issue with it. One major issue I can see coming is people who have integrated their forum with a 3rd party application that only works with 1.2, whether it be a CMS, or something else, for example osDate. I know that a majority of people who have requested 1.2 support are still on 1.2 because they’re using osDate too, and it’s only able to integrate that with 1.2, it hasn’t been updated to 1.4, and I can foresee some of them complaining that we’re ‘forcing’ them to upgrade, meaning they would either have to stop integrating, or just not have the ability to get support, probably going with the option to not get support. People using osDate have already complained about 1.2 coming to and end before now, but we’ll have to try and make them see that it isn’t our fault that osDate haven’t upgraded their script; we can’t continue to support older software just because a 3rd party haven’t updated their software to the latest version of MyBB, they’re integrating with us, so it’s up to them to make sure they’re up to date with the latest release, not for us to keep supporting old software so a few people can continue to integrate with something. They’d be a lot better off badgering osDate to upgrade their script rather than moaning at us to continue supporting 1.2.
Soon, the 1.4 Merge System will be released too. Up until recently there was the option to merge to 1.4 by first merging to 1.2, using the 1.2 merge system, and then upgrading to 1.4, or, using a beta/SVN snapshot version of the 1.4 merge system to go straight to 1.4. This caused some issues though, some people tried to use the 1.4 beta/SVN version to merge to 1.2, or use the 1.2 version to go to 1.4, or just didn’t know what one to use, so hopefully now, with there being just the one merge system, it’ll make everything a lot more interesting. Plus, the merge system is brilliant so the more people that use it the better (more people converting to MyBB, yay).
So, with 1.2 being dropped, 1.4 bug reports slowing down, and the 1.4 merge system released, there should be an opportunity to focus more on the future; 1.6 and 2.0.
There are a lot of quality plugins and themes to 1.2x but of course security without oficial support won´t be the same…
Well, most of the bigger plugins have been updated by now, or there’s at least an equivalent available. The only benefit I can think of for staying on 1.2 is for a particular plugin or something, but it’s unfortunate people have to stay on 1.2 because they rely on those, 1.4 is so much better than 1.2 in every way and IMHO even a good plugin that’s only for 1.2 shouldn’t stop people upgrading.
Are you still on 1.2?? If so, what is it that’s making you stay?? A particular theme or plugin??
Nope, I´m with 1.4 brand since the first public release and keep updated regularly
but I think that myplaza (by zingaburga), arcade and some others plugins could make some ppl stay with 1.2x for some time because its data were not compatible with 1.4x updated plugins – unitl now that won´t be that clever keep that version installed anymore

I have lunch between 2pm and 3pm
You have to remember that they’re feeding more people than just those on lunch if it’s at a garage! I have to agree though, Sainsbury’s suck. They’re going to be building one about 500 yards away from my house in Carlisle at an already impossible place to cross the road. Joys.
Then again, what do you expect from someone who employs Jamie Oliver…?…

That’s quite late!!
True, but it isn’t just the garage, that was just one example, I swear they only buy enough stock to fill half the shelves at any one time.
You should protest!!
